We had a rainy and cold June...and July has a rather hirky jerky start to it as well. But from the sounds of it the atypical weather is nationwide. We camped in Arkansas over Memorial Day Weekend. The water this year was chillier than three years ago - so we spent more time wading than swimming. We rented kayaks and floated down the Buffalo National River again. Attended my cousin Erin's wedding in Fayetteville (a lovely 'do'). Memorial Day found us in Muskogee Arkansas checking out the cemetery (family tree research) and touring a submarine (in Muskogee?). Matt planned to spend his summer at the pool and play baseball. I got him a pool pass and had to pop for a new bike (since he's gotten so tall). It was so rainy he had to wait a week before he could head to the pool with his friends. Unfortunately, his shoelace became tangled in his bike pedal, he couldn't figure out how to stop (hand brakes!), and fell over and broke his arm. No surgery required - but he is in a cast until July 20th. Soooo - no swimming or biking. Matt (and his cast) went to Boy Scout camp for an entire week - He had to reschedule his swimming class for a first aid class - but otherwise he was able to participate in all the rest of the regular camping activities. When Matt returned from camp we flew out East for a week of fun. Attended the wedding of a Ripon classmate, saw friends and family in Cape Cod, Braintree, Gloucester, and NYC. Had a great time and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who fed and housed us during our trip! July 4th has come and gone. Had about 34 people out to the Lake for a day on the beach. Weather was challenging - as it remained cool, misty and cloudy until dinner time. Things began to clear for the fireworks, though - and we all bundled up in our sweats and watched the fireworks show from around a large bonfire. We're planning on staying close to home the rest of the month - with as much lake time as possible - weather permitting! :) |
